All our practice nurses are very experienced and carry out a wide range of procedures including injections, dressing changes, cervical smears, ear syringing and many other nursing duties. They will also give advice about immunisations, foreign travel and family planning. The role of the practice nurse is continuously changing and long term condition management, particularly respiratory disease, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, is increasingly being undertaken by the nurses. Our nurses have various extended qualifications including treatment of minor illnesses, nurse-prescribing, diploma in management of asthma patients and diabetic patients including initiation of insulin treatment. The nurses are supported by our health care assistants who will undertake procedures such as phlebotomy, dressing changes, spirometry and doppler, and will also assist the doctors with minor surgery.
